Trying to find the right label...

I am a socialist. Currently listed on Facebook as "anarcho-socialist." But I've changed my stance somewhat and need a better label. I now believe government to be a necessary evil. Yet I don't think state-run communism has a good track record. There are aspects of capitalism that work, and those that don't. Same goes for communism. I'm leaning toward "democratic socialist," like Fayanora identifies, but I think the economic system needs to be redone. We need a system that has a strong safety net, expects the rich to pay higher taxes, punishes lobbying and bribes, but also doesn't try to pry into people's personal lives. We need a reformed education system that doesn't just teach kids how to be good little Borg drones, and also strongly teaches certain values like sharing, compassion, critical thinking, and good citizenship.

Yeah, yeah, compassion from a Satanist. But I'm not saying to love everyone, I'm just saying respect everyone as a human being, but if they treat you like shit swimming in vomit, then you treat them the same right back. LaVey said "Do unto others as they do unto you." My interpretation of that adds "and if they haven't done anything to you, don't do anything to them."

Basically, I want:

1. Everyone given an actual chance at succeeding, as much as possible. America gives lip service to this ideal, but then keeps cutting the cords of the safety nets and punishing people for not being wealthy.

2. Cut down on corruption, force the wealthy to pull their own goddamn weight around instead of just tossing it around to get whatever absurd shit they want.

3. A new economic system that is more stable, and isn't so damned obsessed with profit and growth.

4. As much knowledge and freedom for everyone as possible.

5. Scrap the two main existing parties, and change things so there's always at least three or four parties on ballots whenever possible. Forbid negative attack ads. Force political ads to meet a certain standard of truthfulness. Of course, if we're teaching critical thinking in schools like we should, the kind of shit they have for political ads these days will naturally die off anyway.

6. Religion OUT of politics as much as possible. ENFORCE the separation of church and state!

7. Public option health care (including dental), public education including college, and greater funding for public infrastructure. One could create lots of long term jobs by giving infrastructure maintenance the kind of funding it really needs, and then some.

8. Possibly some more restrictions on the size and power of corporations. Some of these mega-corporations are just getting absurdly huge.

9. Most important: TAX THE RICH!!! TAX EM TIL IT HURTS! Punish them for evading taxes! Humongous fines for having offshore accounts! Laws that force middle- and upper- management pay to something more reasonable, such as being restricted to being only X percent higher than what they pay their regular employees (and that would include non-cash assets like stocks, bonds, and property). Maybe a law where mass layoffs have to be approved by the state, and they have to make a VERY good case for the reasons why they need to do it.

10. Mandatory voting, like Australia has.

I'm just so fucking pissed off at all the bullshit of the government. We've proven that this government doesn't work worth shit, nor does the economic system we're using. It's time to try something new.
