Hunters keep trying to claim it's cheaper to hunt than to buy meat at the grocery store, and I never believed them anyway but the other day I got one of those adverts in the mail with like grocery store prices and stuff. One part of it was for some sports company with gun prices. The cheapest gun in it was over $200. Oh, yeah, sure, you tooootally hunt "for food" and not for trophies, because it's "cheaper" than just buying meat in the grocery store. NOT! Can't believe these assholes think this is a convincing argument, when anyone who cares to do any research at all can see it's a blatant lie.
Technically it's not the guns, however...
Aug. 25th, 2022 05:28 amA bit ago, one my FB friends said about the gun issue: No, it's not the guns. When I was a kid it was considered an OK chore for a 7-yr old to hunt for the family after class. Many 7-yr olds owned their own guns. There were NO school shootings. Something has gone wrong.
This was my response:
Back then, the minimum wage was a living wage and capitalism was being reigned in. Before that, child labor saw to it that everyone was either being crushed under the boot heel of capitalism or was part of the boot heel. With capitalism bucking the reigns so hard now that they're even trying to revive child labor in the US (and using it already in places like Africa for companies like Hershey's), and with the minimum wage being such garbage that even a single person needs two jobs just to both pay rent AND eat, we're seeing the effects of runaway capitalism without the child labor to snuff out those effects. Parents working all the time and barely parenting because they don't have the time or energy means the youths are being raised by television and the Internet. While most kids are still somehow managing to turn out as good people, others -- primarily white cisgender males -- are getting radicalized by sites like 4chan into extreme white supremacy which includes a powerful sexism. These new white supremacist boys have a powerful sense of entitlement, no regard for human life that isn't their own, and they see other school shootings being huge news on media. When they don't get their way, they turn to violence because they feel like they're the only people who matter. No, scratch that, they feel like they're the only people, period, and everyone else is just a non-player character.
So you're right, it's not guns. It's capitalism, bigotry, white supremacy, and a generation of white supremacists who resort to violence when they don't get their way. I mean, all white supremacists turn to violence to get their way, but usually it's systemic. Now the newer generations of white supremacists are coloring outside of the lines, and it's finally showing us what was always there and how bad it is.

We need to expand the public school system to include colleges, then slash the military budget in half and give half that money to the public school system. The other half of the money should go to Medicare, and then we should expand Medicare to cover everyone. Which should also include dental, and should no longer have any fees or deductibles.
Then tax billionaires at 99% on every cent they make past their first billion, use that money to implement Universal Basic Income of $2000 a month (as I can tell you from experience that $1000 a month is barely enough to scrape by on even with loads of help) to get rid of desperation-level poverty. This would have a chain reaction of basically forcing corporations to let people unionize, force corporations to treat employees respectfully, because the alternative to that is going out of business because they have no employees since nobody will need a job anymore. (People will still want to work to earn more than just the bare minimum to live on. Almost nobody would be content with simply living. That has nothing at all to do with mass shootings, it's a conservative/fascist tactic to take attention away from the real causes. Every time you conflate mass shootings or other gun violence with mental health issues, you're repeating a fascist propaganda point. The mentally ill are far more likely to be victims of violence than the perpetrators.
These mass shooters are NOT mentally ill, they are simply evil. If gun violence really had some connection to mental illness, that would mean every single gun murder in the world was caused by mentally ill people, and I think we can all agree that isn't the case at all.

In fact, since science says your brain isn't done developing til you're 25, nobody younger than that should be allowed a gun. Or alcohol or cigarettes, either.
(Leave the age of consent where it's at, though, that one's pretty much completely arbitrary, as the age you're ready to have sex at varies from person to person. I was ready when I was 9, with my best friend of the time. Some people aren't ready even when they're 70. So 18 seems like an acceptable compromise.)
Anyway, back to guns. I really don't think anyone should be allowed to have them, at least here in the US since we seem to be culturally unable to produce responsible gun owners. But for sure minors shouldn't be allowed anywhere near them!

If you hunt, for any reason (except indigenous peoples keeping ancient traditions alive, which doesn't involve guns and is therefore irrelevant to this topic) then I don't give a fuck about you, you don't matter. Because guns are too dangerous to be allowed to exist, and if I had to throw you lying hunters under a few buses to achieve that goal, I would do it in a heartbeat. Even if I had to literally throw you under a bus to do it. Given how many children and other innocent people have died just in the past few years from guns, a few dead hunters is a small price to pay for stopping the violence.

Because killing someone with a knife is very difficult, takes close proximity or a high level of skill at knife throwing. But killing lots of people with a gun doesn't take any skill or brains at all; even a literal fucking toddler could do it! (Hell, more people die per year from toddlers shooting them to death than die from shark attacks, cow attacks, and dog attacks combined!)
You also have to be able-bodied to kill with a knife, as well. Especially if you're trying to kill a lot of people. But hand an AK-47 to somebody with MS and once they get pointed in the right direction, I think even they could manage to do something as easy as pull a trigger to murder a whole slew of people. Hell, if their finger's on the trigger, a bad enough shake could have them killing people by accident. Being killed accidentally by a knife is possible, but it's not easy. You pretty much have to fall on the thing, and even then it's not a guarantee.
So in short, if I had the power to melt all guns down with my mind and prevent any more being made, I would. And it would be a good thing. Because fuck guns, and fuck the dipshits who love them. Fuck them up the ass with a running chainsaw!

Oh yes, what a wonderful idea! Train people to be better killers, what a splendid idea! Honestly, if we did that, the only thing that would happen is the casualties from these mass shootings would double or triple!
Gun control isn't enough. Gun control always fails. Have you seen the video proofs of how many of these gun shows and gun stores that don't even check for a gun license or do a background check before selling guns? They're not following the laws, so we need to get rid of all guns like Australia did. And saying "Then only criminals will have guns" is idiotic. Look, I can say the same about anything. "Oh, we should legalize nuclear bombs because criminals are going to get a hold of them anyway." Honestly, how stupid are you if your argument is "herp derp we can't ban guns cuz then only criminals will have guns."? By that logic, we should legalize nuclear bombs, biological weapons, and trained attack tigers should be allowed to run loose around elementary schools!

We saw that with Sandy Hook: if even the murder of children can't convince them to enact gun legislation, nothing ever will because they don't care. It's amusing whenever those people pretend their love of guns is about defending their family. Supremely amusing, because so much of their actions disprove the lie. It's one of those stories they tell people that sounds good and most people won't call them out for it because they can't think of a response to it. But given the statistics of gun deaths, especially by children, among other things, it becomes impossible to pretend that that's anything more than a lie. Because if you own a gun, your family is almost 100% certain to be killed by that gun, no matter how well you think you've locked up your guns, because children are cleverer than adults give them credit for, adults are nowhere near as clever as they think they are, and so it becomes basically impossible to keep a gun out of a kid's hands if the gun is kept anywhere on the property.
It's horrifying how many ammosexuals we have in this country; ammosexuals are people who get aroused by guns and the thought of committing murder with them. They're so obsessed with their guns that they don't care about anything else. They lack compassion to the point where a whole bunch of innocent children get murdered with guns in a mass shooting like Sandy Hook, and all they care about is "don't take mah gun away!"
They're also not very bright. They think their guns give them a chance of winning if the government wants to kill them, which is absurd. The 2nd amendment made sense back in the day, but nowadays, if the government wants to kill you, there's not a blessed thing you can do about it.

Oct. 29th, 2016 11:54 pmI can't believe I'm saying this, because I hate guns, but if cops are going to pretend that being afraid of black people killing them is their reason for killing black people, then we need to arm black people with all sorts of guns and ammo and give them all bullet-proof vests (with chainmail underneath for protection from knives) and gas masks to protect from tear gas and mace, to give those cowardly pigfuckers something to really be scared of!
Hell, while we're at it, let’s buy a bunch of old tanks and give them to black people in various cities. Protests against police violence would be a hell of a lot more interesting if all the armed and armored protesters had a tank taking point. Jun. 12th, 2016 10:11 pmMy roommate told me there was a massacre in a gay bar recently. She also was complaining that people were like “Gun control! Gun control!” on the idea that, as she said, “Evil people can just steal guns.” She had a lot of trouble with the simple concept that if you stop selling guns legally, it makes it a lot harder for these people to get guns even illegally. I mean duh, it’s a simple concept, based on supply and demand. The demand can be as high as you please, but if you’ve destroyed the supply and aren’t making any more, then that makes it rather difficult since you can’t steal what doesn’t exist.
Another friend of mine would probably point out that guns are simple enough to make, now that the concept is out there. But honestly, the kind of people who use guns for these mass shootings aren’t bright enough to make a one-time use gun, let alone something sturdier.
So yeah, if anyone ever tells you that making guns illegal won’t do any good, they’re just spouting nonsense propaganda.

While I'm on the whole "shooting in a gay bar" thing, I'd just like to point out that I'm actually surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more. What I mean specifically is such violence in gay spaces not being so common. Why? Well, because I recently saw this video from like, the early 60's, that quite excplicitly equated homosexuality to pedophilia, and it occurs to me that - just like racism and abortion - people tend to forget that these shitty old ideas about things don't just vanish. People who were raised thinking homosexuals are pedophiles are still alive and make up a large part of the population. So the fact that we've made as much progress as we have towards gay rights is fucking miraculous. But that fact can explain why there's still so much progress to make.
It's probably a safe assumption to assume that anyone who says "homosexuality is a sin" is still suffering from that delusion that homosexuality = pedophilia.
At the same time, a lot of how lesbians have had less trouble getting popular acceptance can also be explained by that 60's propaganda. Because the version of that film for females didn't even MENTION homosexuality; the female version focused on older men and older boys preying on young girls, and is still relevant today.
It also reveals an odd belief about pedophilia that persists to this day. In neither of those old films was there ever any mention or suggestion of the existence of female pedophiles. Strangely, people don't think women can be that way, but they can. Female child molesters do exist, but for some reason people don't seem to recognize that.
In one way, that's very dangerous. And in another way, it's kind of a good thing. (Bear with me here.) Because honestly, this whole anti-pedophilia thing is blown way out of proportion, and the aim is off as well. Society is going batshit over "protect the children" but the standard idea of a child molester is a creepy man in a panel van luring children with candy, which is absurd. Yes, people like that exist, but they're extremely rare. Most child molesters, though, are friends, family, and adults in positions of power over kids.
But maybe it's a good thing people don't seem to want to come to terms with that fact, given how much hysteria there is just in terms of "stranger danger." Add suspicion of family and friends to the mix, and our society might tear itself apart.
So how is it "kind of good" that society doesn't think women can be child molesters? Well, look at how fucking crazy we've been going lately in the name of keeping children "safe" from male child molesters: it's so bad that men can't even show any kind of affection for their own children without worrying about being branded a monster. This isn't good for the parents, and it isn't good for the children. It's not good for anyone; between people getting the shit beat out of them because idiots don't know enough English to differentiate between a pediatrician and a pedophile, people getting on the sex offender registry just for drunkenly pissing by a dumpster or for verbally chastising a child who ran into the street and almost got run over, to people being arrested for child endangerment for letting their kids play in the front yard while the parent is watching them from the front porch, this anti-pedophilia hysteria does nothing but harm in my opinion. Any good it might do is greatly eclipsed by the massive harm it does. (Those are all real examples; I didn’t just pull them out of my arse.)
Also, human beings need positive physical touch or they get very ill, and currently our society is so far in the grip of anti-pedophile hysteria that most people don't seem to be able to recognize the difference between good touch and bad touch.
Went a bit off track, but seriously, it is related. A lot of anti-homosexuality sentiment IS still firmly entwined with the anti-pedophilia hysteria gripping our society. A hysteria that is counter-productive.
If you really want to protect your kids and let them live a healthy, happy life, the best thing to do is first: drop the hysteria and teach the concept of consent to kids from a young age, which can be done by teaching them it's not right to touch one another (even hugs) without the other person's permission first. Teach them that, and they will be able to extend that idea to other kinds of touch.
The second step is to believe children when they say they've been violated. A large part of the problem is that when kids do report being molested, they aren't believed; or worse, they're victim blamed.
We do all that, we'll all be a lot better for it. And maybe we can finally weed out that nonsense about homosexuality being pedophilia. And while we're at it, maybe we can extend that to include other harmless kinks between consenting adults, stop nonsense like the idea that DDLG is somehow pedophilia.

It's not good for anyone; between people getting the shit beat out of them because idiots don't know enough English to differentiate between a pediatrician and a pedophile, people getting on the sex offender registry just for drunkenly pissing by a dumpster or for verbally chastising a child who ran into the street and almost got run over, to people being arrested for child endangerment for letting their kids play in the front yard while the parent is watching them from the front porch, this anti-pedophilia hysteria does nothing but harm in my opinion. Any good it might do is greatly eclipsed by the massive harm it does. (Those are all real examples; I didn’t just pull them out of my arse.)
Also, human beings need positive physical touch or they get very ill, and currently our society is so far in the grip of anti-pedophile hysteria that most people don't seem to be able to recognize the difference between good touch and bad touch.
Went a bit off track, but seriously, it is related. A lot of anti-homosexuality sentiment IS still firmly entwined with the anti-pedophilia hysteria gripping our society. A hysteria that is counter-productive.
If you really want to protect your kids and let them live a healthy, happy life, the best thing to do is first: drop the hysteria and teach the concept of consent to kids from a young age, which can be done by teaching them it's not right to touch one another (even hugs) without the other person's permission first. Teach them that, and they will be able to extend that idea to other kinds of touch.
The second step is to believe children when they say they've been violated. A large part of the problem is that when kids do report being molested, they aren't believed; or worse, they're victim blamed.
We do all that, we'll all be a lot better for it. And maybe we can finally weed out that nonsense about homosexuality being pedophilia. And while we're at it, maybe we can extend that to include other harmless kinks between consenting adults, stop nonsense like the idea that DDLG is somehow pedophilia.

They sound paranoid, too. They think a gun will protect them from the boogey men that they fear around every corner. They fail to notice or accept that their guns are far more dangerous to them than the boogey men they fear. They ignore the thousands of cases where guns not only didn't protect them in bad situations, but made the bad situations worse, like when a mugger - unafraid of your gun - steals it out of your hand and kills you with it. They fail to realize that a gun is not a magic wand that gets you your way.
One of their paranoid delusions is this whole "the gubmint gonna take our guns!" bologna. Personally, I'd be in favor of that, but I'm in the minority; most people on the side of more gun control just want better background checks, and to make guns harder to get; which I support, too, in the absence of anyone agreeing with my more hard line opinions. But I don't think their plans go far enough; guns should require car-like licensing, including yearly fees and license renewal fees, and insurance the way cars have; misusing your gun in a way that kills some bystander, or to murder someone, would get you your gun privileges taken away. I also think the number of guns should be severely limited. Nobody who isn't a cop or soldier needs more than two guns - a hunting rifle and a pistol. If your aims really are just hunting and/or self defense, you do not need anything else. (I'm actually being reasonable here; if it was up to me, nobody would be able to own any kind of gun, but unless we can be absolutely sure we've rounded up and destroyed every gun there is, then that idealistic fantasy of mine is, sadly, just an idealistic fantasy.)

Guns are death machines, good for nothing else. B. None of the gun nut dipshits that I get whined at by are in the military, and none of them hunt for food. Some claim they do, but come on, this is the 21st century. If you're on the Internet, you clearly do not need to hunt for food. You are not a fucking hunter-gatherer, you are not an African bushman or a frontiersman surviving on your wits. You are probably some dumb shit sitting in an office eating Funions and bemoaning the tiny size of your genitals. And even if you aren't, there isn't a soul alive in this country with any genuine need to hunt for food. After all, we have these things called "grocery stores" now, where you can use something called "money" to purchase your food. If you claim to hunt for food, you are a liar; you hunt because you enjoy killing things. If you happen to also eat your kill (something I have never witnessed anyone do, despite having been born and raised in the rural Midwest), well good on you for recycling; but you still have no NEED to hunt for food, so stop lying.

In fact, you don't need a gun at all for self defense. There are tazers, there's mace, pepper spray, and other non-lethal ways of putting down an attacker. And while I do agree with the fact that, sometimes in the heat of defending one's own life or the lives of others that an accidental killing of the attacker is justified, owning a gun just shouts to the world that you value human life so little that using lethal force is literally the first thing coming to your mind; it says that you aren't even CONSIDERING a non-lethal option. Which just makes you, in my opinion, utterly without morals or ethics at all. Which is, above all, why we're never going to see eye to eye.

Fucking gun nuts

And made a comment "repeal the second amendment already." And of course, within a very short time, some nutbag starts in with "herp de doo, we can't do that cuz MURRIKA!" This was my response:
The second amendment was ratified at a time when the height of military technology was the fucking MUSKET. (Sure, there were cannons, but they were bulky, had poor aim, and had a tendency to not go off the way they were supposed to.) Also, most of the country was being reclaimed by the wilderness after the Indians were still trying to recover from a massive smallpox die-off (germ warfare). That was a time when it made sense for everyone to be armed, because guerilla warfare actually worked back then. Now, the only people who need guns are... well, maybe the FBI or ATF, if they have smugglers or organized criminals to fight, but nobody else needs guns anymore. Nobody fucking hunts for food these days, nobody's fighting Indians (not legally, anyway), and guns only bring tragedy and genocide these days.
Some people are like "We need the second amendment to defend against the military in case of a coup!" Well I have news for them: the military laughs at your puny guns. The military can nuke your whole fucking city, or bomb just your house in particular, or send sniper drones after you or something; these stupid little militias people organize are completely pointless, and most of them are run by racists and nutty doomsday cultists anyway. The UK doesn't allow guns, and they're a lot safer. Australia, for all its recent faults, doesn't allow guns in their country, and there hasn't been a mass shooting there for decades.
So pardon me if I think the second amendment is pointless, outdated, obsolete, and fucking dangerous in this day and age. Excuse me if I think it needs to be repealed. I stand by my stance.

Gun control and other issues
Dec. 17th, 2012 06:06 pmGun control is a noble goal, and I fully support it, but allow me to point out something: the two most recent gunmen stole their weapons from people who had legally bought theirs, and passed background checks. No amount of gun control is ever going to keep sufficiently motivated nutjobs from getting weapons.
And while we're at it, stop trying to blame the violence on mental health issues. The news keeps bringing up the possibility that the Connecticut shooter may have had Asperger's Syndrome. The only possible way this is relevant is if people were treating him stupidly because of the condition; the condition itself has nothing to do with it. I think the only reason they're even considering the possibility, in the press, is the myth that people with Asperger's don't have empathy. This is absurd. As I, and thousands of others of Aspies can attest, Aspies DO have empathy. In fact, we're often cursed with an overabundance. Where confusion arises is, I think, because being around other people can be painful for many of us, or at least emotionally and mentally exhausting. I myself am picky about who I spend time with because I have to balance my need for company with my ability to tolerate company. And I get angry about so many social issues because it hurts my soul that anyone suffers needlessly. I wish I could cure all the world's ills, but I can't, and that is extremely frustrating.
Another area where confusion about aspies may arise is that many of us need to learn body language. Many misinterpret this as not being attuned to the feelings of others, but the truth is that to someone with Asperger's, the emotions of other humans are like a wave of endless noise. Those of us who have to learn body language do so, I think, to learn how to pick one person's feeling out of the din. At least, that's my experience.
One last thing: don't listen to anything that the mainstream media says about guns. Ever. Their accuracy rate is, as a friend of mine said, the same as homophobes talking about gays. Nothing they say can be trusted, when it comes to guns. They use the wrong terms, they use weird definitions, and most of what they're saying sounds, to anyone who actually knows anything about guns, like they're just making shit up. Because mostly, they are. I'll leave the details of picking apart their lies to someone more knowledgeable than I, since I have never held a gun and have no interest in doing so.
And while we're at it, stop trying to blame the violence on mental health issues. The news keeps bringing up the possibility that the Connecticut shooter may have had Asperger's Syndrome. The only possible way this is relevant is if people were treating him stupidly because of the condition; the condition itself has nothing to do with it. I think the only reason they're even considering the possibility, in the press, is the myth that people with Asperger's don't have empathy. This is absurd. As I, and thousands of others of Aspies can attest, Aspies DO have empathy. In fact, we're often cursed with an overabundance. Where confusion arises is, I think, because being around other people can be painful for many of us, or at least emotionally and mentally exhausting. I myself am picky about who I spend time with because I have to balance my need for company with my ability to tolerate company. And I get angry about so many social issues because it hurts my soul that anyone suffers needlessly. I wish I could cure all the world's ills, but I can't, and that is extremely frustrating.
Another area where confusion about aspies may arise is that many of us need to learn body language. Many misinterpret this as not being attuned to the feelings of others, but the truth is that to someone with Asperger's, the emotions of other humans are like a wave of endless noise. Those of us who have to learn body language do so, I think, to learn how to pick one person's feeling out of the din. At least, that's my experience.
