Ashley Madison
Aug. 23rd, 2015 04:15 amI'm all for hackers revealing to the public stuff like government corruption, government spying on its own people or its allies, and any information that - by remaining secret - would threaten the lives of innocent people. But this whole Ashley Madison thing has me disgusted. You're releasing all these people's information for what? Because they cheat on their marriage??? That's information that is between them and their spouses, nobody else needs to know that information, and it's really disgusting that everyone's so ecstatic about this. Like, setting aside for the moment things like closeted homosexuals/bisexuals being outed, it's a massive invasion of privacy that serves no purpose but pure pettiness. No lives were being threatened by this information being secret, but lives are very much being threatened by this information being exposed - do you not realize that "hubby was cheating on me" is a major motive for murder? So too is "(person) was secretly gay, and I found out." How many people are going to die because of this stolen and leaked information? How many families are going to break apart because of this information?
And really, how is it any of your damn business anyway? Why do you care, aside from pure pettiness? Or what, you want to see if your hubby is on the list? Well if you can't trust your partner enough to refrain from looking up their email address on leaked databases of this site (assuming they were stupid enough to use an address you'd know), then you should just divorce/break up with that person right now, save yourself and them a lot of hassle. Because if you have that little trust in you for your partner, then whether they've broken that trust or not is irrelevant, because either you're right and you have grounds to divorce them or you're wrong and nothing they do will ever be enough to prove themselves trustworthy to you, so why are you even married to them in that case?
I'm not saying I approve of cheating, because I don't. And even if I did, first of all, it's nobody's business but theirs and their spouse's, and secondly, anyone stupid enough to put any personal information their spouse (or anyone else) would know into this site is a grade A buffoon. The simplest of Simons should know that you don't put real personal information into any website that has the potential of ruining your life in case of data breaches like this. And third, as I said, is that if you can't trust someone enough to assume they won't be in that database, then you shouldn't even be married to them.
Anyone celebrating this massive breach of privacy ought to be ashamed of themselves.
