Why can't anything just be simple with government? The PIN number for my student loan online payment thing should be my social security number, or some variant of it.

And what's with having to bring a crapload of shit with me to the welfare office and other government places? With the interconnectivity of information, and the fact that all the banks and places one can work at HAVE to communicate with the government, we should be issued a magnetic card that any branch of the government, any government agency, should be able to slide, jump through a number of security hoops, and instantly have all the information they need for whatever it is they need it for. Bank account amounts, paystubs, tax information, stock and bond holdings, etc. Not enough information to be able to steal someone's identity with, just enough so I don't have to hunt down an assload of shit to bring to any meeting with someone at a government agency.

Hell... even background checks could be done much more simply with that kind of a system. So why hasn't this been done yet?
