Writer's Block: Revolutionary Thought
Nov. 8th, 2008 07:58 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]Religion is NOT the opium of the people. To call it such is to imply that it's something people liked and got hooked on because they liked it. Now here I differentiate between religion and spirituality. Religion is to spirituality as rape is to sex. Yes, I said it: religion is spiritual rape. Long ago, some evil bastards saw people getting a lot out of spirituality and took advantage of that, twisting it into religion. What started as a freedom-loving way of finding a connection with the Divine and with Nature became a method of subversion and control.
The problem with Marx is that he, like so many people, can't tell the difference between spirituality and religion, and so he - in his ignorance - decided to throw out the baby not just with the bathwater but with his mother as well. Which, of course, is counterproductive because dogmatic atheism is just another religion. This is one of the many reasons that communism consistently fails.
No, the true opium of the masses is - and always has been - ignorance, even stupidity.
