[Error: unknown template qotd]Here are my ideas:
* Income caps for CEOs and other high-up muckity muck types who tend to rake in the dough without doing any worthwhile work - payment caps that include alternate payment forms like stock options. I'd say half a mil per year is a nice payment cap for idiots who are used to getting paid several million per year.
* Spending caps in certain categories. I find it appalling that many companies consider places with $100 entrees to be good places to have a meeting over *lunch*.
* Require any and all profits (after employees get paid) to go either into one or more of the following:
1. Expanding the business/improving buildings and infastructure.
2. Pay increases for lower-level employees.
3. Charity.
4. Taxes.
5. Health and/or life insurance for employees, with none of this "Company X is the benificiary" crap.
6. Unemployment insurance.
* Require transparency as to cost versus price, profits, what's being done with the money, and fairness of employee payments and benefits. That last one ties in with my first idea: we want people to know what a person does in his or her job that's worth upwards of half a million per year.
* Give companies strong incentives to buy energy-efficient products, especially energy-efficient light bulbs. It always irritates me that the hall light at our apartment building keeps burning out and they keep replacing the damned thing with a regular incandescent bulb when they could save time, money, and irritation by putting in one of those energy-efficient curly bulbs - those lil buggers last 3 to 5 years!
* Make ripping off the customers (like Enron did) a "life in prison" crime. Or mandatory 50 year sentence or something.
* Require that any product sold in America by any company founded and/or based in America must be made in America. None of this bullshit of going overseas to pay some poor soul a penny a day to make their worthless product - bring the jobs back to America!
* Ban the practice of an American company moving out of America or selling to a foreign company in an effort to bypass the rule just above this one. Close that loophole before it exists!
That's all I have for now.
