If given a choice between Jews and Christians, I will always pick the Jews. Why? Because their religion is more honest. Christians try to claim God loves humanity, but not only does that contradict the Old Testament, it also doesn't stand up to the evidence. Life on Earth is short, hard, cruel, and sucks. If God were truly both omnipotent AND omni-benevolent, then life on Earth would be paradise.
Some people try to explain away the illogicality of that idea, by saying "free will." What BULLSHIT. After all, you can't honestly tell me it's not possible to have both free will AND paradise on Earth. You're telling me God can't end world hunger, make people immortal (with an option to die if life gets too boring), limit reproduction naturally, and end homelessness without getting rid of free will? Of course he could, if he were so inclined. And doing all those things would put an end to the motive for 99% of crime. Oh, and making humans immortal and invulnerable would end the possibility of murder, torture, etc.
But since life is NOT like that, the only logical conclusion, if there is indeed a God, is that either he is omni-benevolent but impotent, OR that he's omnipotent but either apathetic or malevolent (to some degree). Believing in any deity that is both omnipotent AND omni-benevolent flies in the face of the evidence, and is delusional.
So that's why I prefer the Jews. Because the Jews looked at how much life sucks, and decided that God is a complete sadistic asshole. They worship him in the hopes that he'll be a little less of an asshole to them. They make no illogical claims of God being loving and benevolent. They don't outright SAY he's an asshole, though, but that's for the same reason people originally called Faeries "the fair folk" = so they don't piss him off. I like this, because it makes more sense to believe, in the face of life being a shit sandwich, that God is a sadistic asshole than the delusional Christian and New Age belief that God/The Universe is actually loving and snuggly and compassionate.
The only *other* beliefs that make sense, given the evidence of life's shittiness, are:
1. Atheism.
2. Old-school polytheism. (Hundreds of competing gods and goddesses with limited power, compared to the omnipotent models, fighting amongst themselves with humans caught either in the middle or underfoot.)
3. A two-deity system like old-school Zoroastrianism, with a god of good and a god of evil fighting one another.
4. Animism.
So yeah, I have no respect whatsoever for people delusional enough to believe in a being that is both omnipotent AND omni-benevolent.
