The other day, I came across something baffling to me. On Twitter, a LaVeyan Satanist, upon hearing that I am a theistic Satanist1, actually pulled the BS nonsense of "Oh that means you're really a Christian." Now, I expect that kind of bullshit from Xians and even some pagans, but from a fellow Satanist? Fuck that noise! It's especially infuriating because it isn't fucking true. And here's why:

1. Satan/Lucifer predates Judeo-Xianity, and is a figure from certain old pagan religions, greatly modified over the years by the Xians and their predecessors.

2. Plenty of Christians believe in God but not in Satan, so why is it such a hard concept for some people to grasp that some people might believe in Satan/Lucifer but not in God? Especially if you throw out all that "fallen angel" crap and go back to the original notion of Satan/Lucifer as a god rather than an angel? Because it's true. In the pagan religion that evolved into Judaism (when the cult of a minor god named Yahweh would later go crazy and exterminate/convert the others in their tribe), Lucifer was a god that was the son of Yahweh and his wife Asherah.

3. Even if we assume Satanism is a descendant of Xianity, it is still a different religion. Even assuming a Satanist believes in Yahweh, believes Satan is a fallen angel, and even if that Satanist were to do the unlikely thing and believe Satan is evil, there's still such a vast philosophical difference there that claiming even this hypothetical Satanist is really a Christian is like pointing at a Christian and telling them they're really a Jew or a Muslim.
