What's there to be patriotic about?

I hate it when blindly patriotic people tell me I have to love my country. Why? What has my country done to deserve it? I live in a country where people get paid so poorly to do back-breaking menial work that they have to take 2 or even 3 jobs just to eat and pay rent at the same time. I live in a country where those same people are told they're being lazy and entitled for wanting to be paid enough to actually live on, by people who haven't worked an honest day's work in their lives.

I live in a country where the medical industry's prices are so fucking out of control that a single night's stay in a hospital can fucking bankrupt a person. I live in a country where even rich old people are treated like garbage in nursing homes and hospices - left to rot and be raped or otherwise taken advantage of by the staff - because there's no profit in treating someone with respect and dignity when they're just going to die in a year or two.

I live in a country where schools deny food to hungry children because they can't pay. I live in a country where whole families starve because they're poor. I live in a country where schools are so underfunded that you might as well have school in an old condemned building, the state many of these schools are in.

I live in a country where falling in love with someone the same sex as you can get you fired or even murdered, and the murderer gets set free because you were gay. I live in a country where being a gender other than the one you were assigned at birth can also get you murdered and the killer walks free.

I live in a country where the cops - the very people whose supposed job is to protect people - gun down or beat to death innocent people for no reason other than their skin color is too dark, or they're gay, or they're trans, or they're disabled. I live in a country where police use military hardware against the country's citizens!

I live in a country where Autism Speaks - a hate group seeking the extermination of autistic people - is lauded and praised for their good works, and government officials raise money for them. I live in a country where murdering your child will gain you sympathy - SYMPATHY - if that child was autistic.

I live in a country where millions of tons of food go to waste every year, while millions of people starve. I live in a country where it is ILLEGAL to feed starving people!

I live in a country that has 6 empty houses for every 1 homeless person, and those houses just sit empty while people pretend to care about the "homeless crisis." I live in a country where homeless people are being rounded up and forced into camps (sound familiar?) because instead of solving the problems with our society causing these people to be homeless, they're just sweeping the problem under the rug. I live in a country where one city - Denver, Colorado - only started giving homeless people shelter in the winter because it COST LESS to do that than it did to dispose of their dead bodies!

I live in a country where a sexist, racist, homophobic, ableist, transphobic, Islamophobic, incompetent sex offender is being taken seriously as the candidate for one of the two major parties in this country. I live in a country where the other major candidate is a Wall Street tool with a history of racism and homophobia, and she's laughingly called "liberal"!

I live in a country where rapists go free, their victims blamed for being terrorized and violated. I live in a country where mass murderers are called "basically a good kid" in the press, while innocent preteen children murdered by cops for being black are called thugs and the media says they got what they deserved!

I live in a country that has higher gun death rates than any other industrialized nation on Earth, and people still act like gun control is some kind of blasphemy! I live in a country where even some evil shit shooting a bunch of elementary school students to death doesn't garner enough sympathy for anything to be done about the gun problem!

So tell me, how and why should I care about a country that doesn't give a single solitary FUCK about its citizens? Why should I love a country that doesn't even care when children are murdered or are starving to death on the streets in front of them? Why should I love a country that cares more about money and greed than it does about human lives, not even the lives of children? PLEASE, TELL ME. I want to know. I want to know why you love this country, because I don't see how anyone with a conscience could possibly do anything other than hate this worthless country!

Can we just go without a President for four years, please?

I was about to say my sanity will be glad the election is over, once it's finally over, but then I remembered we're going to have either Donald McTrump or Hellary as the Resident, so yeah... my sanity is still going to be stretched thin. Four years of either Voldemort or Umbridge, joy of fucking joys.
