Spring is surely the loveliest week of the year.

I basically view atheism, in most cases, as a knee-jerk reaction to abuse suffered at the hands of people in whatever religion their family or peers tried to force on them. My evidence for this is that most atheists are in fact angry anti-theists who specifically target the religion that is most popular in their society, and when they delve into religions that are a far cry from (for the most common example) Christianity, their arguments break down completely and they reveal themselves to either have never considered those options at all, or show their true colors as utter raving bigoted assholes.

I point to atheists whose entire argument(s) break down the instant they come in contact with religions other than, for instance, Christianity. Sure, you get some atheists that also target similar religions like Islam and Judaism, but if you find one of this type of atheist, and point them at Buddhist beliefs, or Shinto, or Taoism, or paganism, or so on, then most of them just don't know how to react, so they usually just act dismissively and then ignore the problem and go back to their anti-Christian rhetoric, or they turn out to be even worse, sometimes at least as bad as the kinds of Christians they rant and rave against. Most of them have no arguments against these other, non-related religions that sound at all coherent, except for maybe the kinds of arguments that racists use that fall apart with the slightest application of logic.

Oh, and if you really want to break their brains, introduce them to religions that don't believe in any kind of supernatural forces. Usually the best you can get out of them in those circumstances is a generalized "all religions are bad, mmmkay?" attitude with no coherent argument to support their position. Because they've become so dogmatic about the misconception that all religions are evil mind control devices that they can't even begin to fathom the possibility of a religion that's worthwhile, that's worthy of respect.

To clarify, I am by no means saying all atheists are like this. But it is exceedingly rare, in my experience, to find an atheist who recognizes that there might be religions in the world that don't deserve to be hated just because they're a religion. And even rarer to find atheists that have respect for religions that are far removed from the mold of religions like Christianity.

Anyway, time for me to get some Z's.

PS = Also just FYI, for those not in the know, I am not a Christian. I am a neopagan and a Satanist. But not the LaVeyan kind. LaVey’s version of Satanism is Ayn Rand’s nonsensical garbage in a fancy costume like a gilded turd, and I have no respect for that bullshit. My brand of Satanism is my own, but I agree with most of the tenets of The Satanic Temple.

When that one dipshit defaced Six Grandfathers to put four ugly-ass white dingdongs up there instead, he turned Six Grandfathers into Four Assholes. May he burn in Hell for his crime.

Sex workers. Like any other worker, they trade their labor for money. They have a service to provide, one that is risky (amount of risk varies; strippers have less risk than prostitutes, for instance) and the law should protect them the same as it does for any other profession. The only thing prostitution being illegal really does is force the women in that service to be abused by their pimps, encourages sex trafficking, creates a caste of socially invisible people who are easy targets for serial killers because nobody cares if they go missing, and punishes a lot of already-suffering women for being unfortunate enough to be stuck in an abusive situation. And not just women, either; cisgender female prostitutes have it far better than gay male prostitutes and transgender prostitutes. Legalizing and regulating prostitution would make for safer working conditions, cut down on wage theft, cut down on employers abusing their employees, cut down massively on sex trafficking, and would allow law enforcement to focus on the people who need to be rescued from sex trafficking by filtering out the people who are in the profession by choice. That isn't happening now, which just makes the job of finding and rescuing these trafficked people all the harder because law enforcement is wasting so much time arresting people who are prostitutes by choice, along with those who were forced into it.

And even the better-off sex workers like strippers and porn stars could use a lot more respect, too. Filming porn is massively difficult and not at all fun, from what I hear. And strippers are constantly dealing with nasty and creepy men every day, they don't need to be put down for their job choices. Stripping is also a lot of work, especially pole dancing, and most strippers are in far better shape than most of the people who put them down for their profession.

"Oh but they're selling their body for money!" So does every single other working-class person in a capitalist society. They just go a bit farther than others do. Besides which, it's not your body, so why the fuck do you care? It's their body, they can do with it as they please. If you don't like it, tough shit; nobody asked for your opinion.
