[Error: unknown template qotd]Well in the case of my GF and I, that particular stereotype *kind of* holds true. I say "kind of" because she has a directional disability and can get lost going from point A to point A, and I have an exceptional spacial memory. But I lack a directional sense except in familiar territory; in a completely unfamiliar place, my spacial memory doesn't help very much, and I get lost easily. So my spacial memory only helps in familiar places or places that I know are nearby to familiar places. I have no idea which directions are north, south, east, or west unless the sun is rising or setting, and even then I can never figure out north and south. I know this, and ask directions if I need to. In fact, I often ask them frequently if I need to because I have a hard time understanding directions. Especially if someone uses words like "north." In fact, if they use words like that I interrupt them and explain that I have no idea which way is north. Even when told, I generally either forget in 2 or 3 minutes, or get turned around and lose track of which direction is which.

One time, trying to find a new place, I became certain I had the right area, and could not for the life of me find the building I was looking for. I finally began to give up, went across the street to get back on the bus home, and saw the same street on the other side. Had a sudden thought, went down that street, and found the building. By then they were closed, but at least I had found it. But I'd had directions that time, I just didn't understand them properly.
