Originally I posted this on Tumblr, but what the hey, copying it here.
I’ve been seeing a lot of things on my dash lately of people being “grossed out” by 20 year olds dating 18 year olds, or other absurdly small age gaps like that, and I’m like, WTF? What concern is it of yours? As long as everyone involved is at least 18, why do you care how old the other person/people in the relationship are? It’s literally none of your concern, and 20/18 is a ridiculous age gap to get bent out of shape over anyway, like WTF? That’s literally only 2 years. My parents are two years apart in age. I know people whose parents are ten years or more apart in age. Why do you care? Maybe you should mind your own fucking business and let people love who they want.
I feel this kinda ties in with Tumblr’s kink shaming culture. Like, if everyone involved is at least 18 years old, who they date and what they do with one another is literally not your concern. People who stick their noses where they don’t belong, and kinkshame or age gap shame remind me very strongly of Petunia Dursley, rubber necking into others’ business and then being like “ew ick.” Maybe mind your own fucking business, how’s that for an idea?
