Seriously. I only meet strangers in the comfort and safety of the Internet. Then if I figure it's okay to meet them in a public place, I do. I am not the kind to hug random strangers, and I think if a random stranger hugged me, I'd grab hold of them and make sure they couldn't get away while I checked to make sure they hadn't stolen anything from me before I let them go.
