So unrealistic

Watching Brooklyn Nine Nine because it's funny and takes place in one of those fantasy universes where there exist good cops who care about human beings.

Anyway, the episode I'm on right now is the one where Terry gets stopped in his own neighborhood just for being black. And Holt's position on what Terry should do is not rock the boat, not complain officially because he will probably get fired for reporting it, which sadly is true. But then he goes on to say Terry should just rise up through the ranks and change the system. Which immediately had me thinking of that one political cartoon that goes "George is changing the system from the inside!" and George looks exactly like all the other office drones.

Seriously, what a fucked up lesson! "Change the system from the inside herp de doo!" Like that's ever fucking worked. So fucking naive! The only solution is the SMASH the system!

Oh and then Terry's saying how he thought of his daughters, worrying if they one day would get stopped and maybe even killed by a bad cop, and they won't have the "I'm a cop" out that he had. And I just want to say, it must be nice living in a fictional universe where good, non-racist cops that actually care about truth and justice actually exist. I wish we lived in such a world.

Luckily, Holt did change his position. They submitted the complaint, and all that happened (so far) is he got passed over for a promotion. Nice little pleasant fantasy ending. Meanwhile, as much as I like Terry and Holt, it would have had more of an impact if the characters had gotten fired, since that's what would happen in the real world.

Also, it's extremely naive that they think that racist cop will "think twice before making another bad stop like that again." Racists can't be reasoned with, they will never change their minds. People like that, they get an idea in their head and it never leaves.

Okay sure, there are groups for former skinheads and the like that give up a life of hatred, but they're not cops. Anyone with the mentality to become a cop isn't going to give up being a racist piece of shit, it's never going to happen. Cops are sociopaths who get off on having power over others, asking cops to stop being racist sociopathic shitstains is like asking a serial killer to stop being an evil blood-thirsty murderer.

Inaccuracies in Inhumans

OMG this scene in Marvel’s Inhumans is so fucking annoying. So Black Bolt just stole a suit because he has no money. Despite his name, he's white. And conventionally handsome. The cops - without having a description or a reason to suspect him, just suddenly appear and stop him. He's white, conventionally handsome, and wearing a suit. Realistically, in our culture, they would have gone right by him, rather than stopping.

Gods, now they're beating him and shouting "Don't resist!" when he's not resisting. This is so unrealistic! Cops in our culture do NOT treat white people like that. It's everyone else they treat that way. The only way this scene would make any sense would be if he wasn't white!

Sometimes I just want to throw the DSM at these idiot doctors...

Honestly, some of the things that get labeled mental disorders these days are getting ridiculous. Any day now they're going to make criticising the government into some nonsense like Establishment and Order Defiance Syndrome and force pills down the throats of anyone who says the slightest thing against the government!

If you don't think it can happen, remember that homosexuality and being transgender were both listed as mental illnesses in the DSM until recently.

Daiya brand faux cheese tastes almost like cheese, and so I eat it the same way the ghosts in Harry Potter let food rot and pass their heads through it so they can almost taste the food. I eat it because I would go insane without something like cheese and because I can't have real cheese. Everything else vegan I've tasted - the fake meats, tofu, and stuff - tastes like vomit.

Wait, correction: tofu doesn’t taste like vomit; it tastes like the color beige.

No good cops

There's only two kinds of people who want to become cops:

One: Naive children or naive adults who buy into the bullshit propaganda about cops being good people who stand for truth, justice, and love of puppies, and think also that cops are good people fighting bad people when really cops are bad people who more often than not fight and kill good people for no good reason.

Two: Violent sexist/racist/homophobic/transphobic/bigoted sociopaths who get off on having power over other people and want an excuse to rape and/or murder people and get away with it.

On a related note, that's also a list of the people who become cops, and the first type soon get fired or quit because there's no place for a good man in a violent gang/hate crime group.
